Texas Replaced VINE With IVSS
Texas retired its former VINE service on September 1, 2025. Current Medina County checks use Texas IVSS-Counties, which the Medina County Sheriff links from its official page. People may still search for “VINELink Texas” or have old registration instructions, but presenting the legacy portal as the active county route would now be wrong.
The Texas Attorney General’s victim-notification page explains the transition. Existing registrations were migrated, and some users may be asked to update a password on first login. County participation should be checked in the live portal. Medina County’s own link to the gateway is the local basis for using it.
Texas has two related routes. IVSS-Counties covers supported county custody events. The separate TDCJ IVSS gateway covers people in the state prison, parole, and mandatory-supervision system. The systems should not be treated as one statewide release record.
Search a Medina County Inmate
A one-person IVSS search is narrower than a broad released-inmate lookup. Start with the custody class. Someone booked at Medina County Jail belongs in the county gateway. A person serving a TDCJ sentence at Ruben M. Torres Unit, Joe Ney Unit, or another state prison belongs in the TDCJ systems. Federal and immigration custody require different tools.
- Open IVSS-Counties and select or confirm Medina County in the live interface.
- Enter the full or partial name and any supported identifier, such as DOC ID, SID, jail ID, or permanent booking number.
- Compare more than the name. Check the available identity details before opening or associating a record.
- Read the displayed status and event wording exactly. Release, transfer to TDCJ, escape, death, and court-event changes are different.
- Note the time of the search and save the relevant event or confirmation.
- Call Medina County Jail at 830-741-6058 when a result is missing, ambiguous, or newly changed.
A search can be performed without an account. An account is used for continuing notifications. Exact-name assumptions are risky. Compound surnames, prior names, initials, spelling variants, and two people with the same name can all produce a false match or miss.
Medina IVSS Result Fields
The live interface can change, so the research does not promise a fixed screen layout. It does support person identifiers, custody information, event language, and notification functions. The safest practice is to preserve the labels shown at the time and avoid translating them into a stronger claim.

A released person may no longer remain searchable. That makes disappearance a lead, not proof. The Medina County Sheriff’s release record can show when county custody ended, the event type, and a receiving agency when recorded. The criminal case can show the bond, judgment, dismissal, sentence, or order behind the event.
Register for Medina Release Alerts
Sign in or create an account after locating the correct person. Associate the person or case only after identifiers align. The current workflow may offer telephone, text, or email and may allow preferred hours or blackout dates. Available choices should be taken from the live screen rather than an old VINE brochure.

- Set any preferred contact times or blackout dates shown by the system.
- Review and save the registration confirmation and notification history.
- Update contact information as the service permits and call 866-268-8959 for round-the-clock English or Spanish help.
A notification can arrive late. Phone service can fail, an email can be filtered, and an event can be corrected. Keep contact details current and use the alert as a prompt to verify with the jail or other releasing agency. Do not rely on one delivery channel for urgent knowledge.
Note: The present Texas county service does not publish a required four-digit PIN workflow, so no current PIN should be invented.
Medina County and TDCJ Alerts
A county transfer-to-TDCJ event is the handoff point between systems. It proves that Medina County custody changed, not that the person returned to the community. Continue the check in TDCJ’s current-inmate locator and TDCJ IVSS. State records use the TDCJ number or SID number as stronger identifiers than a name alone.

TDCJ’s public inmate locator includes only people currently incarcerated in a TDCJ facility and can be at least one working day old. A former prisoner may disappear. Use the TDCJ records email or relevant information line for incarceration history and release confirmation instead of calling a blank result proof.

Legacy Texas VINE PIN
The old Texas VINE workflow is historical. An archived Texas VINE brochure instructed a user to call 877-TX4-VINE or use VINELink, find the person, enter a telephone number or email, and create a four-digit telephone PIN. On an automated call, the recipient entered the PIN followed by the number sign to acknowledge the call.
Unanswered calls could repeat for up to 48 hours under that superseded process. Those details can help someone understand an old registration or notice. They must not be followed as current Medina County instructions after September 1, 2025. The current IVSS-Counties screen and its confirmation process control.
If an account was migrated, begin at the official Texas IVSS route and follow any password-update prompt. Do not send a user back to the legacy VINELink portal merely because the old brand appears in an email, saved bookmark, or web search result.
Confirm Medina County Alerts
An IVSS notice is strongest when paired with the originating record. Ask the Medina County Jail whether the person is presently held and whether the event was release or transfer. Then request the existing booking or release record. Use the case number in the Medina court portal to find the legal event.
The sources answer different questions. IVSS can provide speed and notification. The jail entry documents physical custody movement. The court file explains the legal authority. If the record names another custodian, continue there. A transfer to Torres, Ney, another county, BOP, USMS, or ICE is continued custody, not a Medina community release.
The Texas DPS Sex Offender Registry is also separate. It covers people with a statutory registration duty, not everyone released from Medina County or TDCJ. A person’s presence or absence there cannot substitute for an IVSS check or a release record.
When Medina IVSS Finds Nothing
First check spelling, surname order, and identifiers. Then confirm that Medina County is the proper jurisdiction. A person arrested in Medina County may have moved into state, federal, immigration, or another county’s custody. Search the system tied to the actual custodian rather than the place first associated with the case.
If the person was at Medina County Jail, call the jail and send a focused records request. State the name, booking date or interval, and desired release fields. A request for an existing record is different from asking staff to create a report. Note: A negative IVSS search is never enough to state the date, reason, or destination of a Medina County custody change.
